It is imperative to ensure that your AR-enabled products operate as planned across various devices before going live with them.
Testing guarantees that the 3D models are rendered correctly, interact with, and exceed customers’ expectations.
This article will guide you through testing AR views on desktop, Android, and iOS devices.
Steps to Test the AR Functionality #
1. Testing on Desktop for 3D Model Viewing #
- Open your website on a desktop browser. Use Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge.
- Go to the product page that features the model with AR.
- Here’s what you need to check:
- The 3D model appears with no delays or errors whatsoever.
- Users can zoom in, rotate, and also pan the 3D model, and it enhances their experience.
- Model details and texture are shown accurately.
2. Testing AR on Android Devices (via .glb Files) #
- Use an Android tablet or smartphone to open the product page.
- Ensure that AR can be used (may feature with buttons like “View in AR” or “Launch AR”).
- Click the AR button and, using the device’s camera, verify the following AR features:
- The .glb file loads without any sort of distortion.
- The model accurately attaches to environments (for instance, floors and tables within the room).
- Movement and scaling options are intuitive and user-friendly.
- The dimensions of the product in AR mode are accurate on a real-world scale.
3. Testing AR on iOS Devices (via .usdz Files) #
- Go to the product page on an iPhone/iPad with iOS-supported devices.
- Search for the product page’s AR button and press it to start AR mode.
- The built-in AR viewer in iOS will automatically extract the .usdz file.
- Please check the following to verify:
- The model should load in a viewport in a timely fashion and render without issues.
- The AR model should be anchored appropriately to real-world surfaces.
- All movements, including model movement, rotation, and scaling, should be seamless.
- Scale and proportion in relation to existing objects should be accurate.
Checklist for AR Testing #
To ensure that the augmented reality feature is ready for your users, make sure to follow this checklist.
- Rendering: Ensure that 3D models render correctly on all devices without issues or missing components.
- Interaction: Check that rotation, zoom, panning, and positioning can be done without lag. In AR mode, models should be able to move and be resized precisely.
- Dimension Accuracy: Captured 3D models in AR should be accurate and proportional to the real-life object in question.
- Device Compatibility: Make sure to check on popular Android and iOS devices. Test multiple browsers for desktop viewing (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.).
- Lighting and Texturing: Check that all texturing and materials look good and change with the lighting in AR.
Creating and uploading your 3D models and AR components on various devices will ensure a better experience for your customers.
